The Advent Wreath ✅ One Of The Most Iconic Decorations Of The Season
The Advent Wreath

The Advent Wreath

It’s edging closer. The C word is almost upon us and, for once, we’re not talking about Covid, but the beautiful celebration that is… Christmas! The scent of cinnamon and pine is starting to fill the air, and many households already have their trees up in anticipation of the festive season commencing. It truly is a magical time and filling your home with beautiful decorations is an intrinsic part of it.

One of the most iconic decorations of the season is the beautiful Advent Wreath. This usually consists of evergreens, pinecones, and berries, with 4 individual candles at its centre. Advent is an important part of the Christian calendar, that begins on the fourth Sunday before Christmas Day and ends on Christmas Eve. It is a time of much anticipation and excitement, and these delightful wreaths are a wonderful way to symbolise this.

Candles, and light as a whole, are a common religious symbol for spiritual awakening. Circular in form, the wreath represents eternal and everlasting life and love, and the 4 candles at it centre are lit each Sunday of Advent:

Week 1: the first candle symbolises hope

Week 2: the second candle symbolises faith

Week 3: the third candle symbolises joy

Week 4: the fourth candle symbolises peace

A white candle, representing purity, is placed in the centre of the 4 candles and lit on Christmas Eve – it is known as the ‘Christ Candle’. These wreaths form a central part of Christmas church services in Christianity, though they in fact originated in a home setting, and many choose to have them as a special part of their decorations each year.
